Wardrobe types

Sliding, hinged, walk-in or with a loft

Choose a type to see how it works and which rooms it suits.

Sliding wardrobe

Doors glide on a top track, so nothing swings into the room. Large panels in laminate, mirror or lacquered glass make the bedroom feel wider and tidier.

  • Compact bedrooms
  • Wardrobes facing a bed
  • Mirror or glass fronts

Hinged wardrobe

Classic doors on soft-close hinges. You can see the whole wardrobe at once, and it’s the most flexible layout inside.

  • Most bedroom sizes
  • Full-width access
  • A traditional look

Walk-in wardrobe

An open dressing area with hanging, shelves and drawers you can step into. Profile lighting and a mirror make it feel like a boutique.

  • Master bedrooms
  • A spare room or passage
  • Large collections

With loft wardrobe

Extra cabinets above the wardrobe use the full ceiling height for suitcases, bedding and seasonal things you rarely need.

  • Rooms with high ceilings
  • Long-term storage
  • Families short on space

Materials

Branded boards, finished edge to edge

A wardrobe is only as good as the board inside it and the care at its edges.
  • Branded plywood in BWR or BWP grade for the carcass, the right choice for walls that get damp
  • HDHMR or MDF shutters where a perfectly flat, smooth face matters
  • Laminates in matte, gloss, textured and wood-grain finishes, or acrylic and lacquered glass
  • Edge banding on every exposed edge, so moisture and borers stay out
  • Soft-close hinges, telescopic channels and sliding systems from branded manufacturers

Inside your wardrobe

Planned around your clothes

  • Hanging, planned

Long and short hanging at the heights you actually use, for saris, shirts and uniforms.

  • Drawers and trays

Soft-close drawers and pull-out trays for folded clothes, accessories and jewellery.

  • Built-in locker

A concealed locker for documents and valuables, built into the carcass.

  • Mirror shutter

A full-length mirror on a shutter saves wall space in the bedroom.

  • Profile lights

Sensor lights that switch on when the door opens, so you can see every corner.

  • Edge-to-edge finish

Sealed edge banding and aligned shutters, the detail that separates a good wardrobe from a great one.

FAQ

Wardrobe questions

Sliding or hinged: which should I choose?

Sliding doors save floor space and suit smaller bedrooms, because nothing swings out. Hinged doors let you see the whole wardrobe at once and cost a little less. If the space in front of the wardrobe is under about 90 cm, choose sliding.

Which plywood do you use?

We use branded plywood. BWR or BWP (boiling-water-resistant/proof) grades suit wardrobes on walls that can get damp. HDHMR and MDF work well for shutters that need a very flat, smooth finish. We’ll recommend the right board for each part and list it in your quotation.

Will termites affect a wooden wardrobe?

Branded plywood is treated against borers and termites, and we seal exposed edges with edge banding. If termites are a known problem in your house, get the walls treated before installation. We can also keep the wardrobe raised on a plinth.

Can you build a wardrobe with a dressing table or study desk?

Yes. Combined units are common in Tenkasi homes, where bedrooms double as study or dressing spaces. We design the wardrobe, dresser and desk as one piece so the finishes match.

What finishes are available?

Laminates in matte, gloss, textured and wood-grain finishes are the most popular, and they’re durable and easy to clean. Acrylic gives a high-gloss look, and lacquered glass or mirror shutters make a room feel bigger.

How much does a wardrobe cost?

It depends on the size, board grade, shutter finish and fittings. After the free site visit, we give you an itemised quotation so you can compare options before you decide.
